Doris E. (Slack) Long

Doris E. Long Jan. 20, 1923~March 16, 2010 Resident of San Ramon Friends and family are invited to a memorial service for Doris E. Long on Sunday, March 28th, at 11:00am at Wilson & Kratzer Chapel of San Ramon Valley, 825 Hartz Way, Danville. Mrs. Long died at the age of 87 on Tuesday, March 16th following a short illness.

She was born on January 20, 1923 in South Bend, Indiana to Perry and Violet Slack. Her favorite jobs over the years were as secretary for Agnew Elementary School in the 1960's and as a buyer for Almaden Vineyards in the 1960's and &`70's.

She married her sailor, Robert G. Long in 1944. They were married for 57 years until his death in 2001. Her volunteer work included years with the Village House of Los Gatos and the Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Her interests included dancing, contract bridge, gardening and playing Scrabble and cards with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughters, Judith Anderson of Woodland Hills, Barbara Dormire of Santa Rosa and Nancy Barancic of Danville; son Steven Long of Calusa; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Just like a sister to her was her friend of 56 years, Dorothy McLennan of Grass Valley. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society.
