Wanda J. (Krips) Bailey

SOUTH BEND - Wanda J. Bailey (Gordon), 88, died at 4 a.m. Sunday, October 31, 2010, at home surrounded by her family, friends and her beloved pets, of COPD. Wanda was born August 3, 1922, in Battle Creek, MI, to Leo Alexander and Mary E. Krips. She came to South Bend as a small child, and is where she lived her lifetime.

In December 1939 she married Chuck Gordon, who served on the South Bend Police Department. They had a daughter, Karen Sue Nolan, who survives, along with her son-in-law, Jim. In May 1959 she married Harry H. Bailey, who preceded her in death in February 2002, as did Harry's son, Douglas Bailey, in 2009.

Wanda was employed at Honeywell (Bendix) for over 30 years. She worked in inspection at the South Bend plant. She retired in the 1970s to take care of her ailing mother. Wanda enjoyed working in her yard and flowers every summer, and found so much pleasure from her many collectibles she gathered over the years. Her favorites were her angels and "Maxine" items. She could have been Maxine's twin.

Visitation will be today, November 2nd, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 3rd, in the funeral home, with Chaplains Brigit Smith and Steve Nani, and entombment at Riverview Cemetery. In memory of my Mom, Wanda requested donations be made to any animal organization of the donors choice, or to the Center for Hospice Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.

To the Hospice team, my Mom and I thank you for her wonderful care over the past six months, and Sara, she looked forward to your Wednesday visits so much. Mom, I'm glad your pain is gone, and you are on the "Rainbow Bridge," and will be with all your little pets, especially our Patches. I will love you forever, dearest Mom.
