Marie D. Magner, 86 of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2008 at Evergreen Senior Care and Rehabilitation Center in Battle Creek. She was born October 20, 1921 in South Bend, Indiana to Albin and Bertha (Janowiak) Hosinski.

Mrs. Magner was a 1940 graduate of South Bend Central High School. After graduation, she was employed by McGann Securities as an administrative assistant. It was there that she met Charles W. Magner, whom she married on September 27, 1947, in St. Patrick Catholic Church in South Bend. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage, until Charles death, in October of 2005.

Mrs. Magner is survived by two daughters, Mary (Ronald) Sine of Battle Creek, Michigan, Anne (Anthony) Farrell of Champaign, Illinois; two sons, Michael (Denise) Magner of Arlington,Virginia, Patrick (Maureen) Magner of Oak Park, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Erin (Brian) Sine Schneider, Katie (John) Sine Scheuerle, Tim Magner, Dan Magner, Sean Magner, Emma Magner, Abby Farrell and Max Farrell; and two great grandchildren.

Mrs. Magner's greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved to sew, and became an expert at many other types of needlework. With her generous spirit, most of the things she made were for others. She was an active member of the Christ Child Society, crafting many items to benefit their services. Her strong faith was demonstrated throughout her life. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Notre Dame, and served on their first Parish Council. Mrs. Magner was also an avid fan of Notre Dame athletics. She and her husband attended decades of events together in support of Notre Dame teams.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 2008 at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame, with burial to follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame. Visitation for Mrs. Magner will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2008, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m.
