John Farrington Lane Dec. 29, 1930 - Sept. 26, 2014 CHICAGO - John Farrington Lane, 83, of Chicago, passed away Friday, September 26, at the Imperial Hospital in Chicago. He had been a resident there for a year.

John was born in South Bend on December 29, 1930, to the late Jean F. and Bess W. (Cox) Lane. John was a graduate of Central High School, but had attended Central Catholic High School for one year. He served in the U.S. Army for nine years, having served eight of those years in Japan. He was a lifelong resident of South Bend but had resided in Chicago for the last several years.

John is survived by his son, Gene; his grandson, Carter, and a step-granddaughter, Alexandria Dobski. John is also survived by his sisters, Janet (Snook) Leggett, Joan Kalus, Jewel (Cookie) Hoffman and Margaret (Peggy) Kotoske; and his brothers, Jerry A., Gordon J., and James (Chip). Preceding John in death were his sisters, Mary Jean Pavelsek, Joyce Kelly, Julia Gannon and June Calvert; and his brothers, Joseph and Jeffery. John is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

John will be remembered by all who knew him for his keen intellect and his quick biting wit.
