Esther (Duncan) Merrick

April 15, 1900 - Dec. 7, 1990

SOUTH BEND - Esther D. "Daisy" Merrick, 90, of St. Paul's Retirement Community, died at 1:50 a.m. Friday in St. Paul's Health Care Center after an illness. Mrs. Merrick was a clerk/cashier at Merrick's Pharmacy. She was born April 15, 1900, in Harvey, Ill., moving to South Bend in 1909 from Harvey.

On Feb. 14, 1921, in Niles, she married Norman W. Merrick Sr. He died Oct. 14, 1980. A son, Norman Jr. died July 7, 1987.

Surviving are a son, Gale of Elkhart; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Olive Merrick of South Bend; and a brother, Vance B. Duncan, Jr. of San Jose, Calif.

Mrs. Merrick graduated from the former South Bend Central High School. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 2 for 50 years and a member of Faith United Methodist Church. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Guisinger Colonial Chapel.

Entombment will be in Riverview Mausoleum. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
