Kenneth J. Alward, 63, of 1015 Sherman Ave., a clerk at the Post Office for the last 27 years, died at 7:40 a.m. today in Memorial Hospital. He had been ill three weeks.

Mr. Alward was member of Weftminster Presbyterian Church, South Bend Lodge 294, F&AM, and the Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend. A graduate of Indiana University, Bloomington, he was captain of the 1923-24 basketball team there. He was a veteran of World War I, having served in the Navy.

Born in South Bend on Feb. 2, 1900, he was a lifetime resident here.

He married Opal Myers of South Bend on Oct. 18, 1933. She survives with a son, Kenneth F.; a brother, Wilmer C., and a sister, Mrs. Helen Peterson, all of South Bend.

Friends may call after 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday by Rev. Walter D. Oberholtzer, pastor of Holy Trinity Church. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery.
