H. J. Holmes, Store Owner, Dies at 49

Howard Johnston Holmes, 49, of 531 N. Scott St., proprietor of the Julia E. Holmes Silver Salon, on N. Michigan St., died at 6:30 a.m. today in Memorial Hospital after a two-week illness. He had been proprietor of the store since the death of his mothler, Mrs. Julia E. Holmes, in 1952. He was born Feb. 2, 1913, in Dowagiac, Mich.

On April 20, 1939, in South Bend, he was married to Eunice Lauber, who survives. Also surviving are son, David, and a daughter, Carolyn at home: a brother, Robert A. of South Bend; and a sister, Mrs. Charles Pendergast of Fort Wayne.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. Friday in the Hickey Funeral Home. Services will be Saturday morning in St. Patrick's Catholic Church. The hour has not been set. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church. The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.
