Attorney Collapses During Divorce Case.

After examining a witness, Edward O. Scheer, 38 yr old South Bend attorney, collapsed and died Wednesday afternoon in St. Joseph superior court No. 1 where he was handling a divorce case. A police resuscitator squad sought to revive Scheer. He was dead on arrival at St. Joseph hospital. Two doctors and a nurse were in the courtroom when the attorney was stricken.

A brother of former, Prosecutor Arthur F. Scheer, had been a member of the law firm of Scheer, Scheer and Ettl since 1941 when he was graduated from the University of Notre Dame law school.

Mr. Scheer was a lifelong South Bend resident. He was a star guard on the 1931 Central High school football team, claimant to the Indiana state championship.

Scheer was born July 29, 1913 the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Simon Scheer. In 1944, he was married to Dorothy Fortier, who survives. Also surviving are five year-old twin sons, Joseph and Michael; a daughter, Margaret Rose, seven months of age, and another brother, Dr. Irvin J., of Chicago.

He was a member of South Bend Lodge No. 235, Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks, the Fifth District Democratic club, the Notre Dame Club of St. Joseph Valley, Temple Beth-El Men's club, the local and national Zionist organization, and an associate member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Also, he was a member of the St. Joseph County Bar association.

Friends may call in the Hay funeral home after 4 p.m. today until funeral services there at 9 a.m. Friday. Rabbi Albert M. Shulman, of Temple Beth-El, will officiate. Interment will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial park.
