Frances S. (Studebaker) Strickler

Frances S. Strickler, 93, of the Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation Center, died of natural causes on Sunday, Jan. 3, in the nursing home.

She was born on Dec. 10, 1905, in South Bend, Ind., to Emelia and William Studebaker. She was the granddaughter of Henry Studebaker, one of the five Studebaker brothers. On Nov. 12, 1936, she married Arnold P. Strickler in South Bend. He preceded her in death on Jan. 28, 1994. Her brother, Richard Studebaker, was killed in 1945 while serving in World War II.

Mrs. Strickler is survived by a sister-in-law, Evelyn F Flynn of Chicago, Ill.; a niece, Barbara Wenker of Orland Park, Ill.; and by a nephew, Daniel Flynn of Chicago.

Mrs. Strickler graduated from South Bend Central High School. She was a 1927 graduate of DePauw University, Greencastle, Ind., and received her Master's degree in nutrition from the University of Wisconsin. After teaching at DePauw she returned to South Bend where she was employed by the South Bend Community School Corporation as a home economics teacher, and later worked in food services with the corporation. She retired in 1970.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23, at the First Baptist Church, 3010 S. Ironwood Road, South Bend. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church where Mrs. Strickler had been a member since 1916. The Welsheimer Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
