Hilda Alene (Raby) Lean

LAWTON - Mrs. Hilda R. Lean, 72, mother of Dr. Edward W. Lean, Jr., of Paw Paw, died Saturday morning in Borges Hospital, Kalamazoo, after a long illness. She had been a resident of the Hope nursing home here.

Mrs. Lean, a former resident of South Bend, was born April 1, 1906, in Goshen, Ind., and her maiden name was Hilda Raby. She married Edward W. Lean, Sr., on Nov. 29, 1934, in South Bend.

Surviving, besides Dr. Lean, are a daughter, Mrs. Barbara L. Pogoni of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Mrs. Florence Gustafson of South Bend, and seven grandchildren.

Mrs. Lean was a graduate of the University of Chicago and a retired school teacher in South Bend. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the Thalia Alpha Chapter and the First United. Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Society of St. Joseph County, Ind.
