Mark B. Garn, 78, of 810 E. Woodside, died at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday following an apparent heart attack while driving his car. Garn was southbound on U.S. 31 south, near New Road, when he apparently suffered the attack. His car crossed the northbound lane and swerved to a stop in a wooded lot. There were no other vehicles involved, according to Indiana State Police.

He retired in 1975 as the owner of Mark Garn Realty Company.

He was born May 2, 1904, in Marshall County and had lived in South Bend since 1917, coming from Plymouth.

On Dec. 3, 1924, in Louisville, Ky., he married Pauline Griffin, who survives along with daughters, Mrs. Jack (Dona Lou) Pierce of South Bend and Mrs. Ralph E. (Nancy) Bachus of Boulder, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Donmoyer Avenue Church of Christ, with Charles Barrington, pastor, officiating, Cremation will take place at Michiana Crematory. Private interment of ashes will be on Friday at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. There will be no visitation at the funeral home, although visitation will take place at the church following services. The Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., is in charge of arrangements.

A graduate of Central High School, he attended Indiana University at Bloomington. He was a member of the Donmoyer Avenue Church of Christ, the Board of Realtors of St. Joseph County since 1924, a charter member of the Multiple Listing Service and a former member of National Board of Realtors.

Garn and his wife were wellknown world travelers and delivered talks to area organizations. The South Bend Tribune described their trips throughout the United States, including an excursion covering 22 countries in 115 days.

Memorial contributions may be made to the YMCA Youth Scholarship Fund or the Lewis Children's Family Service Center in care of Donmoyer Avenue Church of Christ, 718 E. Donmoyer.
