Lucien S. Franckowiak, 79, of Fountainview Place, Mishawaka, died at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the nursing home after an illness of several months. He was president c of the former Franckowiak's Furs, Inc., retiring in 1972 after years of service.
The firm, founded in 1911 by his father, the late Charles H. Franckowiak, at 203 N. Main St., was moved in 1926 to 314 N. Michigan, where Mr. Leonard Furs is now located.
Born on April 23, 1904, in St. Paul, Minn., he moved to South Bend in 1911. On June 30, 1936, in South Bend, he married Rose Marie Manuszak. She died on Oct. 31, 1971.
He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Helen F. Elliott of South Bend; and two nephews, Dr. Charles H. Franckowiak of Waterford, Mich., and Thomas M. Elliott of Hartland, Wis.
A brother, L. Chester, died in January 1983.
The Kaniewski and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Franckowiak was elected 1 to the national board of directors of the Retail Manufacturing Furriers of America, Inc., in 1955, and d was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus Council 553. He also was a member of St. Matthew Cathedral, the Chamber of Commerce, Chopin Fine Arts Club and American Association of Retired Persons, and was an associate member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 36, South Bend.
