Carl L. Hibberd Sr

Carl L. Hibberd Sr., 79, former president of the Hibberd Printing Co. and one of Indiana's leading Masons, died Friday evening in Healthwin Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Hibberd, of 405 E. Peashway, was born May 8, 1889, in South Bend and resided here all of his life.
On April 22, 1914, in South Bend, he was married to Fanny Hardy, who died in 1938. In Chicago on Sept. 11, 1942, Mr. Hibberd married Mildred H. Ballantyne, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Carl L. Hibberd Jr. of South Bend and Alan Hibberd of Miami, Fla.; one grandchild, and a sister, Mrs. R. V. Bassett of Owego, N.Y.
Mr. Hibberd was a member of First Presbyterian Church and South Bend Lodge 294 F&AM of which he was a past worshipful master. He served as the Grand Master of Masons for the Grand Lodge of Indiana and was a member of Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend.
Mr. Hibberd received the honorary 33rd Degree of Masonry in 1935 and was al member of South Bend Chapter 29 Royal Arch Masons and Council 82 Royal and Select Masons. 'Also, South Bend Commandery 13 Knights Templar, South Bend Shrine Club, Indiana Club, South Bend Turners, the Izaak Walton League and the Northern Indiana Historical Society. He was a former president of the Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Hibberd was also a past president of the Rotary Club. Services Monday Mr. Hibberd was a life member of Avalon Grotto, an honorary member of South Bend Chapter Order of Demolay and a charter member of the South Bend Country Club. He was also a member of Orak Shrine, Hammond, St. Hilary Conclave, Cross Fort Wayne, and the Constantine, Mich. Mr. Hibberd was a graduate of Cornell University and a past president of the Fidelity Investment Co.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Daniel W. Fowler, D.D., pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call in the Welsheimer Funeral Home after noon Sunday.
