Raphael Vernon Maurer

Aug. 28, 1874 - Feb. 1, 1963

R Vernon Maurer, 88, for many years a prominent South Bend architect, died at 1:30 PM Friday n the Wilson Nursing Home.


Mr Maurer, father of Harp;d V Maurer, also an architect, had been seriously ill for four days. He resided at 2032 E Jefferson Blvd before moving in the nursing home.
Mr Maurer was born on Aug 28, 1874, in South Bend, and practiced his profession here for 64 years, first in partnership with the late George W Freyermuth; former mayor of the city, and then with his son in the firm of Maurer & Maurer.


Many of the present buildings in downtown South Bend were designed by Mr Maurer. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, South Bend, Lodge 294 F&AM, the Odd Fellows and the Kiwanis Club.


Surviving are his widow, the former, Ruth South, whom he married on May 28, 1902 in Marshall County, his son and two grandchildren.


Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Sunday in the Welsheimer Funeral Home.
