Mrs. Perley was born in New Carlisle, this county, March 28, 1870, the daughter of the late W.L. and Maria Casaday, pioneers of this vicinity. When 10 years of age she came with her parents to South Bend, where she had since resided. Her father for a number of years was president of the South Bend Chilled Plow company.
On Nov. 25, 1892, she was united in marriage to Samuel S. Perley, a prominent local business man. Casaday, in this city, and Leo Casaday, of New Carlisle, and a sister, Mrs. George Cleveland, of Glendale, Calif.
Since coming to this city Mrs. Perley had been affiliated with St. Patrick's church, taking part in its activities. She had also been active in the work of the Ladies' Aid society of St. Joseph's hospital until forced to give up her public associations because of ill health.
Her husband has distinguished himself through his connection with several large industries and important business endeavors. He was at one time manager of the Coquillard Wagon works, served as secretary of the South Bend Chilled Plow company and was one of the organizers of the Citizen's National bank and the American Trust company."
