Sol W. Boorda
Sol W. Boorda, 65, of 1120 N. Allen St., died at noon Wednesday, Mar 26, 1986, at Memorial Hospital. Mr. Boorda was the manager of Brown's Sporting Goods until his retirement in 1979 due to poor health. He was a 25-year employee of the former Max Adler Co. where he rose from salesman to president of the company. He was born Oct. 7, 1920, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident.
On Aug. 12, 1945, he married Anita R. Feiwell, who survives. Also surviving are daughter, Patricia Rice of Gaithersburg, MD, son, Gary M. of South Bend; a grandchild; and three brothers, Nathan of Cumberland, MD, Abe of Chicago, and Simon of South Bend.
Services will be at noon Friday in Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 415 S. Ironwood Drive. Burial will be in Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery, Mishawaka. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Mr. Boorda served as president of the Town and Country Merchants Association and served on the merchants board at Scottsdale Mall. He was a volunteer lecturer for the Junior League-South Bend Police Department Shoplifting Prevention Clinic and also served on the Broadway Theatre League as a staff volunteer. He was a member of the Jewish War Veterans, National and Local 318, past member of Indiana National Guard, and served in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was a graduate of the former Central High School, attended Indiana University and was a former member of the Kiwanis and Elks clubs.
