Raymond Anthony Swift (nee Swiatowy)

Feb. 6, 1920 – Dec. 8, 2003 Raymond Anthony Swift Sr., 83, passed away on Monday, December 8, in Regency Place of South Bend.He was born the son of Anthony Frank and Mary Ann Swiatowy in South Bend on February 6, 1920, and was a lifelong resident.

Raymond grew up in South Bend and graduated from Central High School in 1938.He earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Indiana University. Upon returning to South Bend, he opened Swift Realty, which later became American Parade of Homes.He was successful in selling real estate for over 50 years. Raymond was one of the original members of the Multiple Listing Service for realtors in the South Bend area.

On Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1957, he married Helen Margaret Scheiman, and they were happily married for 42 years. Helen died on January 12, 2000. Loving family members who survive include three daughters, Mary Helen Goins of Clarksville, Tenn., Margaret Ann Swift of South Bend and Marilyn Susan Banschbach of Kalamazoo, Mich.; and a son, Raymond Anthony Swift Jr. of Elkhart, Ind.; and by 10 grandchildren of whom he was very proud. Raymond was the oldest of four children and has two surviving brothers.

Raymond had many interests outside of selling real estate. He loved to go to auctions, flea markets, and yard sales. He was a collector of golf clubs, cups and saucers, as well as IU and ND memorabilia. He loved to travel and always enjoyed going with family members to Lake Michigan. Raymond was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 553.

Friends may visit with the family from 9 to 10 a.m. today, Dec.10, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N.Bendix Drive, South Bend. A private funeral will be held with Rev. Ronald Trippi, C.S.C., officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.
