SOUTH BEND - Helen Kathryn Pope, 74, of Court of the Royal Arms, died at 1 a.m. Tuesday in her home after an illness. Mrs. Pope retired in 1989, after 25 years as administrative assistant to the assistant dean of the College of Arts and Letters at the University of Notre Dame.

She was born June 24, 1920, in South Bend. On March 6, 1943, in South Bend, as Helen Kathryn Miller, she married Thomas M. Pope. He died Oct. 21, 1975.

Surviving are two daughters, Carol J. Howard and Nancy L. Deneen, both of South Bend; a son, Gregory D. of South Bend; nine grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Donahue of South Bend; and a brother, James Miller of Denver, Colo.

She was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church and the Ladies of the Elks.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the church. Cremation will take place, with burial. in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in Hickey Funeral Home, 117131 Cleveland Road, where a wake service will be at 7 p.m.
