Alva E. Logan Jr.

Jan 28, 1921 - May 20, 1972

A. E. Logan Jr., 51, a former South Bend resident, died of leukemia last Saturday at the Veterans' Research Center Hospital in Chicago following an extended illness. He was born Jan. 28, 1921, in South Bend.

He was a graduate of Central High School and was a lieutenant in the 82nd Airborne Division in Europe during World War II and received a Silver Star for gallantry in action at the Battle of the Bulge.

On July 4, 1946 he married Virginia Hendricks of South Bend, who survives with two daughters, Nancy of Chicago and Mrs. Janice Housman of Reed's Ferry, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews in South Bend.

Mr. Logan was employed by Callerman Co. food brokerage firm in suburban Lincolnwood. He moved to Chicago 14 years ago from Peoria, Ill. He was a former regional sales manager for Chicken of the Sea Tuna Co. for 12 years before joining the Callerman Co. He was also employed for a short time at Hans-Rintzsch Luggage Shop in South Bend while attending high school.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army following his graduation in 1938 and was discharged in 1946. The body was cremated in Chicago Monday. Burial was Wednesday in Highland Park Cemetery, South Bend. Mrs. Logan said contributions could be made to the National Leukemia Foundation
