John J. Kreczmer

South Bend Police Cpl. John J. Kreczmer, 53, of 2606 Bertrand St., was dead on arrival at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Hospital after suffering an apparent heart attack while at work in the city jail as a jail warden. He was taken to the hospital in a fire department ambulance.
According to his family doctor. Kreczmer had a medical history of diabetes and hypertension, though he hadn't been under a doctor's care for heart problems. Kreczmer just returned to work Tuesday after a vacation of approximately one month.
He was born July 29, 1920, in South Bend, and had lived here all his life, joining the police department in 1950.
In August 1941 in South Bend he married Julia E. Plonski, who died in 1972. Surviving are a son, Jerome, of Mishawaka, also a South Bend policeman; two daughters, Mrs. Louis (Janice) Tutino of South Bend, and Miss Jane Kreczmer, at home; three grandchildren; and a brother, Frank, of South Bend.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Guisnger Colonial Chapel. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, with Rev. Albin Hosinski, C.S.C., assistant pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. A parish rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
Kreczmer was a Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of Post 50, the American Legion. He was member of Lodge 36, F.O.P.; Lodge 9820, V.F.W.; Lodge 83, P.N.A.; the West Side Democratic Club; and the Robin Hood Golf Course Mens Club
