Cecelia Mae (Koertge) Whiteman

Cecelia Whiteman, 80, of the Hamilton Grove Retirement Community, New Carlisle, Ind., formerly of South Bend, Ind., died on Monday, Jan. 15, in the Hamilton Grove Retirement Community. She was born in West Salem, Ill., on June 26, 1920, to the late Carl and Tressie Koertge.

On April 18, 1942, she married Philip Whiteman, who died in 1985.

Cecelia was a nurse in South Bend for many years. She was a member of Evangel Heights United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Brogdon of South Bend, and by three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial services for Mrs. Whiteman will be at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 18, in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, located at Ironwood and Jefferson. Rev. Edward Fritz will officiate. Cremation will take place, and burial of remains will be at a later date at Sumption Prairie Cemetery.

Contributions in memory of Mrs. Whiteman may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County or to the Hamilton Grove Communities
