Albert J. Hirschler, 46, of 626 Marquette Blvd., vice-president of Tower Federal Savings & Loan Assn., died of a heart attack Monday night in his home. He had been under a doctor's care since 1955 when he suffered a heart attack. Mr. Hirschler, active in many fraternal, political and social organizations, joined Tower in 1948 and was made the association's assistant treasurer four months later.

He was appointed assistant secretary and treasurer in 1951, and named to the vice-presidency in 1952. He was associated with the St. Joseph Bank & Trust Co. for 2½ years before joining Tower. In 1960 he was elected chairman of the operating board of the Credit Bureau of South Bend.

Active in Democratic politics, the was one of the unsuccessful candidates for a councilman-at-large seat on the Common Council in the 1963 election. He was a member of the St. Joseph County Hungarian Civic and Democratic Club. Mr. Hirschler was a graduate of Central High School and a four- year Army veteran.

Active in Many Groups: He was active in the Boy Scouts, the United Fund, hospital drives, Indiana Savings and Loan League, Kiwanis Club, St. Joseph Lodge 45, F&A M, Orak Temple, the Society of Real Estate Appraisers, Indiana Club, Chamber of Commerce of South Bend/Mishawaka, South Bend/Mishawaka Board of Realtors, South Bend Consistory, the Calvert Rod & Gun Club, Post 272, American Legion, and Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of South Bend.

He was born on April 29, 1920, in South Bend, residing here his lifetime.

On March 3, 1944, in Falmouth, Mass., he married Lillian Mae Jambor, who survives. Also. surviving are three sons. Albert J. Jr., Frederick A. and Paul A., all at home: a brother, Emery L., and a sister, Mrs. John A. Reitz, both of South Bend.
