SOUTH BEND Joseph H. DeBaets, 70, of 2158 Hollywood Place, died at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday at Meridian Nursing Home .

Mr. DeBaets retired in 1980 as a field representative for Indiana Michigan Power Co. He was born Oct. 3, 1920, in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident.

On Oct. 9, 1948, in South Bend, he married Dorothy Marshall. She survives with two sons, Tim of New York City and Terry of Houston; a sister, Florence Pinter of Bend; and a brother, Henry of South Bend.

He was a member of Harvest House and Ushers Club, both of Holy Cross Catholic Church, American Legion Pulaski Post 357 and Volksring, and was a veteran of World War II.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Holy Cross Catholic Church. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 p.m. Thursday in Kaniewski Sons Funeral Home, where a wake will be at 3 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association.
