ROSEDALE- Robert James Cox, 92, of Rosedale, Indiana died at 7:25 am Wednesday, June 12, 2013 in Signature Healthcare of Terre Haute. He was a Commercial Airline Passenger Pilot with Braniff International Airways retiring with the rank of Captain with 32 years of service.

He was born December 3, 1920 in Rosedale, Indiana to the late Milton Cox and Edith Montgomery Cox.

Survivors include his wife Maureen Smith Love Cox whom he married September 27, 1997 in Rosedale; also surviving two sons, Robert J. (Nickie) Cox, II of Texas and Paul W. (Michelle) Cox of Texas; one daughter, Melissa (Wayne) Wolf of Texas; two step-sons, Michael Love of Westland, Michigan and Andrew (Rachelle) Love of Olympia, Washington; one brother in law, Frank Cherry of Danville, Illinois; seven grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Milton, Joe and John Dale Cox, two sisters, Sarah Kathryn Kelly and Mary Martha Cherry.

He was a graduate of South Bend Central High School and Technical College of Fort Wayne. He enlisted with the Army Air Corp in December of 1942 and received his honorable discharge from the Army Air Force in June of 1948. During his military career he flew a P-38, P-47, P-51, B-17, B-24, B-29, C-47 and a C-45; He was certified by the FAA and flew commercially a B707, B720, B727, BA111, CV240, CV340, CV440, CW46, DC3, DC4, DC6, DC7 and ended his career with a 747. During his 32 year span he logged in more than 32, 000 hours and more than 9, 600, 000 miles.

He was a member of the Rosedale United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of Rosedale Masonic lodge #259, Scottish Rite Valley of Dallas, Braniff Silver Eagles and a Square Dancer. After retirement enjoyed flying his Piper Cub.

Services will be 11:00 am Monday, June 17, in Cottrell-Gooch Funeral Home, 287 N. Main Street, Rosedale with the Rev. Myron James officiating and music by Alexis Love. Burial with military graveside honors by American Legion Tony Kashon post 290 will follow in Rosedale Cemetery. Visitation is 2-5 pm Sunday at Cottrell-Gooch Funeral Home. Memorials should friends so desire, may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607 in his memory.
