ESTHER M. (BONDA) SHANKS

SOUTH BEND - Esther M. Shanks, 92, of South Bend, passed away Friday, May 18, 2012, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. She was born on May 5, 1920, in South Bend, to the late Nick and Helen (Chrzanowski) Bonda, and was a lifelong area resident.

She graduated from Central High School and on November 3, 1945, married Robert Shanks, who preceded her in death on September 23, 2003.

Esther is survived by her nephew, Richard (Agnes) Thompson; four nieces, Georgia (Orville) Stacy, Julie (Kevin) Parker, Nancy (Bob) Newcomer and Patti (John) Reeder; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mrs. Shanks retired from 1st Source Bank in 1985 after of 30 years of service as a teller. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Stanislaus B.M. Catholic Church, where she was in the Altar and Rosary Society. She will be missed by her many friends at Bingo.

A funeral Mass for Esther will be held at 11 am Wednesday, May 23, 2012, in St. Stanislaus B.M. Church, where friends may visit for one hour prior to the Mass. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial Masses are requested at St. Stanislaus B.M. Church, 415 N. Brookfield St., South Bend, IN 46628.
