Louise Mardell (Bassett) Carlton

THREE RIVERS - Louise M. Carlton, 91, of Three Rivers, Michigan, formerly of South Bend, passed away at 12:40 p.m. Saturday, December 12, 2009, at her daughter's home in Three Rivers. She was born September 7, 1918, in South Bend, a daughter of Arthur and Alice (Rerick) Bassett, and had lived in South Bend all of her life until moving to Three Rivers with her daughter 7 1/2 years ago.

On April 20, 1940, in South Bend, as Louise Bassett, she was united in marriage to Richard E. Carlton. They enjoyed nearly 62 years of marriage until his passing on April 6, 2002. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Ellen Bassett.

Mrs. Carlton was owner-operator with her husband of R.E. Carlton Plumbing & Heating from 1948-1981. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and enjoyed cooking and reading.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Alice and Jack Troyer of Three Rivers, MI; her son and daughter-in-law, Richard E. and Rebecca Carlton of Mishawaka; four grandchildren, Richard (Susan) Carlton, Adam (Carley) Carlton, David (Amanda) Troyer and Shelli (Jerry) Burks; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 15th, in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Graveside services and burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, South Bend. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services Tuesday in the funeral home.
