E. Lucille (Barnhart) Johnson

ROCKLEDGE - Lucille Barnhart Johnson's peaceful nature and ability to make the best of every situation was inspiring to her family and friends. "I always thought of her as a pioneer woman, because she turned every tough circumstance into an easy one," said her daughter, Penny Putnam of Greenwich, Conn. "She was a peacemaker who smoothed down the waves for everyone."
Mrs. Johnson, 79, a retired loan officer, died Thursday, Sept. 23, at Wuesthoff Hospital.
She was born in Lansing, Mich. Mrs. Johnson attended Indiana University, where she studied liberal arts. Mrs. Johnson came to Brevard County in 1956 from Indianapolis. She was a 15-year employee of the Brevard County Teachers Credit Union in Cocoa. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Rockledge Presbyterian Church. She was a former president, secretary and treasurer of Rockledge Garden Club. She enjoyed gardening and making watercolor paintings.
Other survivors include her daughters, Diana Wells of Rockledge and Barbara McKay of Houston; son, Mark Johnson of Rockledge; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Wylie-Baxley Rockledge Funeral Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Rockledge Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Florida Memorial Gardens, north of Melbourne
