Roy Harold Bailey

Roy H. Bailey, 79, of Alabaster. Ala., formerly of Niles, Mich.. died following an extended illness at 9 a.m. on Friday, April 14. in his home.
Born in Kirksville. Mo.. on Oct. 24, 1920. to Beulah May (Wolf) and Walter Elmon Bailey, he had lived in Niles for most of his lifetime moving to Alabama in 1993. While living in Niles. he was a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church. Mr. Bailey retired in 1987 as a Department Manager for Nationwise Automotive, Columbus, Ohio. He was also previously employed at Studebaker from 1947-1967 and Franklin Manufacturing from 1967-1972.
A Veteran of World War II, he served In the 13th Armored Division. 124th Armored Engineers of the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Saint Thomas the Apostle Church and the Knights of Columbus #9550, both in Montevallo, Ala., and VFW Post #2284 In Edwardsburg, Mich.
On Aug. 21, 1948. in South Bend, he married Alice D. Downey, who survives. He is also survived by a son, James E. (Cathy) Bailey of Alabaster; three grandchildren, Clarissa, Brian and Serena Bailey, all of Alabaster; a sister, Betty L. Rieder of South Bend; and by three brothers, Harry H. Bailey of South Bend, Howard F. Bailey of Niles and Kenneth J. Bailey of Richmond, Ind.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Roy H. Bailey will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18, in Saint Mary Catholic Church by the Rev. Canon Marian M. Kencik of the church. Interment will be at Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Granger, Ind. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 17, in the Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, with recitation of the Rosary at 8 p.m
