REBURIAL RITES TO BE HELD FOR ST. LO VETERAN
The body of Second Lieut. David G. Ackerman, 1416 Kinyon street, who was killed in the battle of St. Lo Normandy, France, June 13, 1944, will be returned to South Bend for reinterment. Friends may call in the residence from Saturday morning until noon Monday. Memorial rites will be conducted at 2 p. m. Monday in the Russell chapel. Rev. George Dick, pastor of the First Baptist church, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview cemetery. He was, born in South Feb. 1,. 1919, and spent all Mende here. He enlisted in the national guard in 1939 and employed by the Studebaker corporation until the activated.
Surviving are his mother, Laura Ackerman, of South Bend; a son, David Ackerman, Meridian, Miss.: and two sisters, Miss Violet, New York city, and Miss Alice, South Bend.
South Bend chapter No. 6, Disabled American Veterans, will conduct military rites. Pallbearers will be William Greider, Robert Riland, William Cealka and Harry Rathfon, all of South Bend, Capt. William A. Dembaugh, Philadelphia, Pa.; Howard Strombeck and Frank Canarecci, both of Osceola, this county ,and J. R. Burkett, Dosdill, Miss. Honorary pallbearers will be Major H. T. St. Clair, of Stillwater, Okla., Edward M. Meredith, Dennis M. Smith, Charles W. Crum, sr., Clyde Garrison Harvard, Mikeselland; Idaho, William N. Wittner, James A. Rohan, of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Jess A. Robison, of Detroit, Mich., Bryan J. Roe and Charles H. Gehring.
