SOUTH BEND - Charles O. Teske, 74, of 2406 E. Washington St.. died at 4:45 a.m. today in his home after an illness. Mr. Teske retired in 1968 from the South Bend Police Department and also retired in 1983 from Miles Inc., Elkhart, as a security guard.

He was born Aug. 1, 1919, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident.

On March 9, 1943, in South Bend, he married Mary Jane Firestone. She survives, with two daughters, Martha J Winegar of Granger, and Sue Ellen Pastryk of Mishawaka; a son, James M. of South Bend; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; and two sisters, Eileen Jones and Marian Mastain, both of South Bend.

Mr. Teske was a veteran of World War II. He member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 36, and a deacon of First Brethren Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday in Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, and one hour before services Friday in the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County Inc. or the church building fund.
