Roman F. Szymanowski

Roman F. Szymanowski, 86, formerly of South Wellington Street, passed away at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 12, in the Holy Cross Care & Rehabilitation Center. He was born on May 15, 1917, in South Bend, Ind., to Martin and Anna (Zyzak) Szymanowski, who preceded him in death. On May 8, 1946, in South Bend, he married Carrie Ann Karasiewicz, who preceded him in death in June 1989. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Szymanowski in July 1998, and by his sister, Frances Joossens.
Surviving him are two sons, Gene Szymanowski of Granger, Ind., and Ernie (Margie) Szymanowski of Mishawaka, Ind.; a grandson, Michael (Jennifer) Szymanowski, and their daughter, Katherine Szymanowski; Christopher’s wife, Laura Szymanowski, and their children, Kyle and Carrie Szymanowski; and a brother, Ervin Zyzak of Federal Way, Wash.
Roman was a member of St. Adalbert Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Prior to retiring from Allied Products he had worked many years at Studebaker. He also belonged to American Legion Post 357 for over 50 years.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Jan.14, in the ST.JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.
