Richard H. Simonds

Richard H. Simonds, 85, of Brookdale Drive, South Bend, passed away Monday, November 14, 2005, in his home. He was born on January 30, 1920, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Harvey and Theta (Chambers) Simonds. Richard was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Simonds.

On March 17, 1951, Richard married the former Viola Erickson in South Bend in Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.

Richard had retired from 1st Source Bank where he had worked as the vice president of the mortgage loan department. He was also a World War II veteran, where he served in the Army Air Corps for four years in Europe. Richard was a 32 degree Mason, attended First United Methodist Church, and was a former member of the Morris Park Country Club.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Viola Simonds of South Bend; two daughters, Suzanne and her husband, Dan Shead of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, and Barbara and her husband, Robert Syburg of Granbury, Texas; and two grandchildren, Hanna and Richard Syburg of Granbury, Texas.

Friends may visit with the family on Friday, November 18, 2005, from 5 to 7 p.m. (South Bend time) in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend. There will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
