William F. Payne

SOUTH BEND William F. Payne, 73, of Farm Lane, died at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday in American Healthcare Center, Elkhart.

Mr. Payne retired in 1982 from Miles Inc., Elkhart, as a cash management accountant after 23 years of service. He was born Oct. 28, 1919, in Frankfort, Ind., and lived in South Bend since 1986, coming from Elkhart.

On Sept. 29, 1951, in Cassopolis, he married Betty Gene Decker. She survives with a daughter, Sandra L. Sharp of Elkhart; a son, William K. of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands; a stepson, Gene T. Decker of Cassopolis; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was past president of National Accountants Association, member of Loyal Order of Moose, Elkhart, and was a veteran of World War II.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Osolo Missionary Church, Elkhart, or any charity
