Samuel Fisher Keesey

Samuel Fisher Keesey, 84, died Friday, Dec.26, in Harborside Health Care, Point Place. He was born May 3, 1919, in South Bend, Ind., to Samuel Earl Keesey and Ruth Fisher Keesey. Sam was a graduate of Central High School, South Bend, class of January 1938. A year and a half later, he entered Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind., and graduated in April 1943.
In December 1943, he was assigned to the 3477th QM Truck Company. After training, he was shipped to Hollandia, Dutch East Indies, and subsequently in January was shipped to the Linganan Landing on Luzon, Philippines Islands, and from there to Manila, where he spent the rest of World War II.
He was married to Marjorie Jeanne Jones on June 20, 1944, and she died in February 1985. He then married Ruth Crom Sawders in 1985.
During Sam’s working career, he was a salesman and part-owner of the Buckeye Furniture Company, retiring in 1986.He was a member of Collingwood and Monroe Street United Methodist Churches, where he was a founding member of the trustees, administrative board and foundation.He was also a Stephen Minister at Monroe Street Church. Sam was also a volunteer in the Diagnostic Department of Toledo Hospital for 17 years, and was a member of Barton Smith Masonic Lodge #613.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Crom Keesey; sons, Robert and Mark Keesey; and stepdaughter, Lynne McClure. There are five surviving grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son William Keesey.
Friends will be received in the Boyer VanWormer Scott Funeral Home, 5055 Secor Road (north of Laskey) today, Dec.28, from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., with Masonic services to be held at 7:30 p.m. A memorial service will be held Jan. 3, 2004, at 11 a.m. in Monroe Street United Methodist Church, with Pastor Karen Shepler officiating.Interment will be at Highland Cemetery, South Bend.
