Richard Huff - Class Of 1938 VIEW PROFILE

Richard Huff

Richard Dan “Dick” Huff

Richard Dan "Dick" Huff, 93, of Fairhope passed away Oct. 29, 2013. Dick was born in South Bend, Ind. on June 22, 1920. He graduated from Central High School, and served in the U.S. Navy in WWII.

Dick was married to Mary Jane McNabb on April 18, 1943 while on leave from the U.S. Navy. Dick and Mary Jane were married for more than 70 years, dated for six years before marrying and had known each other for 90 of their 93 years.

Dick enjoyed a long, successful career with South Bend Lathe Works — beginning with a job in their mailroom in 1939 and progressing through the company to become vice president by the time he retired in 1971. After "retirement," he consulted with hundreds of small businesses for the remainder of his life. After moving to Fairhope he volunteered as a mentor for more than 15 years with SCORE, a nonprofit association dedicated to helping small businesses.

Dick was an accomplished woodworker, and one of his favorite things to make were clocks for people that were special to him or Mary Jane. He was an amazing man — an incredibly dedicated husband to his "Janie," a model for his children and a Godly man who will be missed deeply by all who have known him.

Richard is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Huff; his children, Alan Huff, Kathy Lafuse, Jenifer McCoy and Fred Huff; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Fairhope on Nov. 1, 2013, officiated by Rev. Matt McCullough. More than 50 relatives and friends were in attendance. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to PEO, Chapter AB, 15175 Julieann Lane, Silverhill, AL 36576. The family of Richard Dan Huff wishes to thank the many friends who have supported us in prayer and care during this time.
