Francis E. Hoffer, Jr.

Francis E. Hoffer Jr., 82, of the Timbercrest Retirement Community, North Manchester, Ind., passed away at 10:35 p.m.

Friday, Dec. 20, 2002. On March 14, 1920, in South Bend, Ind., he was born to F. Earl and Gertrude (Schafer) Hoffer. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by a sister, Marion.

Francis remained in this area most of his life. He grew up in the milk business his parents owned and operated until 1952, the Hoffer Milk Company of South Bend. On Sept. 8, 1951, he married Edith Hartsough. Francis was a graduate of Purdue University, and had a professional career as a teacher in higher mathematics.

Along with his wife, Edith of 51 years, survivors of Francis include one brother, Erwin Hoffer of Ridgecrest, Calif., as well as-19 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Francis will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, in the Palmer Funeral Home, 314 S. Michigan St., Lakeville. Rev. Martha Lyon, pastor of Lakeville United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial and graveside services will follow at Fair Cemetery, North Liberty. The family will receive friends one hour prior to funeral services on Monday.
