Russell Lane Goddard

Russell Lane Goddard, 86, a 46 year resident of Grand Prairie, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, September 19, 2004, after a long battle with cancer. Sincere thanks go out from his family, to the dedicated staff of the Community Hospice of Texas, in Fort Worth, where he received wonderful care until his death Russ was the son of Mark Albert Goddard and Ivory Alice Grant Goddard and was born on May 11, 1918 in Gloucester, Massachusettes.
Of his many accomplishments, Russ was extremely proud of having graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana in 1949, having earned a Bachelors degree in Accounting. Equally, he was proud of having served with the 35th SeeBees, (U.S. Naval construction batallion), during WWII, where he was stationed in the Solomon Islands.
He was a former member of the Boy Scouts of America, the Optimist Club of Grand Prairie, and was himself a disabled Veteran. Russ was a 32nd degree mason and was currently an active member of the Hellah Temple in Dallas. Russ was also a past President of the Sam H. Hamilton Masonic Lodge. He was very interested in genealogy and was a past President of the Goddard Association of America.
In addition, Russ was an ardent sports fan and took great pride in having attended 35 Super Bowl games, missing only three. He also had many stories to tell regarding his attendance at the 1968 Summer Olympics, which was held in Mexico City that year. Russ was a very successful businessman, having founded, owned and operated Dial Supply and Manufacturing Company Inc., until he retired in 1999. His involvement in the community was evidenced by his having received the Grand Prairie Community and Home Improvement Commissions top award for individual achievement in 1969. Russ along with Ruth E. Jackson were neighborhood chairmen for this program which served to encourage clean-up drives in their areas in 1969.
In addition, he organized and promoted the Christmas City USA program in Grand Prairie. His efforts culminated with this program receiving the honor of a 1st place trophy for beautification, which was awarded in Washington, DC.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Edna Mae Mann.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife and caretaker of 15 years, Jewel Margie Goddard, his daughter Marsha Moeller and her husband Ron, son Robert Goddard and his wife Denise, step-daughters Cathy Griffith and her husband Bob Lee, Bunny Harmon and her husband Brett, Diana Robleski and her husband Bob, Sheryl Tegtmeyer and her husband Chris, and step-son Bill Crable, sister Shirley Duncan and her husband Don, brother Mark Goddard and wife Judy and numerous grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A memorial service was held at the funeral home chapel.
