Corp. Ermal Fields was killed in action in Italy, July 5, 1944, the war department notified his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Josh F. Fields, 922 South 36th street, and his wife, Lois A., 1026 West Grove street, Mishawaka, Sunday afternoon. He died without ever having seen his Karen Louise, born Oct. daughter, 28. 1942.

Fields, born in Leiter's Corp. Ford, Ind., March 1, 1921, was a graduate of Nuner grade school and Central High school here and attended the South Bend College of Comerce two years before enlisting in the, four years ago today. served in the armored forces in North Africa and with saw the invasion force before being sent to Italy. He had been oversees since and fought on the Anzio beachhead.

Surviving besides his parents, widow and daughter are brothers, Sergt. Robert E. Fields, in England, Gary Duane, at home, and a sister, Mrs. Frank M. Leonard, Brunswich, Ga. Her husband is in the navy there. The Fields family came to South Bend from Fulton county 21 years ago
