Juanita Marie "Nita" (Barnum) Avirett

Nita Avirett MERIDIAN - Mrs. Nita Marie Avirett of Meridian passed Feb. 11, 2002, at her residence. Services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 15, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Creech officiating. Burial will be at Meridian Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday evening at Lawson Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. Avirett was born June 4, 1919, in South Bend, Ind. and attended Central High School there. After finishing high school and graduating in 1938 she went to work for a local dentist as a dental assistant.

During WWII she met and married Bob Avirett in South Bend. Her husband convinced her to move to Harlingen, but before moving, their first son, Vance R. Avirett was born Nov. 29, 1944. After moving to Harlingen her second son, Robert "Bobby" E. Avirett, was born Aug. 26, 1950. In 1951 she and her family moved to Meridian, Texas.

Over the years she was a member of many local organizations, including the study club, garden club and a member of First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Avirett was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Vance; and a brother.

She is survived by her son, Bobby Avirett of the Woodlands; grandchildren, Brian Avirett of Arlington, Pam Knowles of Morgan and Robby Avirett of Spring; a great-grandson, Kevin Anderson; a sister, Bette Ives of South Bend, Ind.; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Her love of family and friends will be missed by all. Her love will especially be missed by her children and animals, but her spirit will survive.
