Jess Gerald "Jerry" Whiting, 76, who resided at 69425 M-62 South, Edwardsburg, Mich., passed away at his home on Tuesday afternoon at 1:52 p.m. in Edwardsburg, after a brief illness. Jerry was born May 17, 1920 in South Bend. He was the son of the late Jess Edward Whiting and Nancy Ann Nemeth.

He was a retired sales representative of Stewart Warner, Alemite Division, of Indianapolis. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was married on April 25, 1941 in Niles, Mich., to the former Lurlene E. Peck, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Sandra) Campbell of Eustis, Fla., and Mrs. Jack (Barbara) Preston of Angola, Ind.; a son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Betty Whiting of Niles; eight grandchildren, Dana Acree, Bob Day, Nicole Preston, Danielle Preston, Jess Preston, Patrick Preston, Brandie Preston and Kim Pisarsky; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Phil (Gloria) Ware of Brandenton, Fla.

A funeral mass will be held Friday, at 11 a.m. (Michigan Time), in Our Lady Of The Lake Catholic Church, with Father David Otto, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Edwardsburg Cemetery. Friends are being received at the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home from 6 to 8:30 p.m. (Michigan Time), Thursday, and for one hour at the church before the services on Friday.

Mr. Whiting was a member of the church and the Edwardsburg American Legion, Post 365. A prayer service will be held Thursday, 6:30 p.m. (Michigan Time), at the funeral home
