George B Whitcomb

George Bernard Whitcomb

Nov 16, 1920 - Nov 13, 1948

Son of Fred and Germaine (Chappelaine) Whitcomb, George was born and raised in South Bend, graduated from Central High School and then attended Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis on a full scholarship. He worked as a commercial artist for Grauman Advertising in Chicago. He created some iconic full-page Coca Cola ads seen In Life Magazine and Saturday Evening Post.

He married Janet Murphy in 1944 and had two daughters, Carol Sue and Nancy Lynn.

In 1948, he succumbed to heart failure from damage he had from childhood rheumatic fever. He was buried on his 28th birthday.
