George M. Shumaker

George M. Shumaker, 84, of Tanglewood Lane, Mishawaka, formerly of East LaSalle Avenue, South Bend, passed away at 11:40 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2005, in Fountainview Place, Mishawaka, IN.

He was born on January 4, 1921, in South Bend, to the late George M. and Ida (Leedy) Shumaker. In 1946, in South Bend, he married the former Helen Kiefer, who preceded him in death in 1959. On July 23, 1966, in South Bend, he married Virginia M. Clark, who survives.

Mr. Shumaker is survived by his wife of 38 years, Virginia; a stepdaughter, Mary Lynn (Richard) Koval of Crown Point, IN; four grandchildren, Douglas (Diane) Koval, Kathy (Richard) Stepnoski, Tracy and Karen Koval, all of Crown Point, IN; three great-grandchildren, Andy Koval, Morgan and Madison Stepnoski; a sister, Mary Emma Wolf of New Carlisle, IN; a brother, Mark (Sylvia) Shumaker of South Bend, IN; and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Ka Donald and Paul Shumaker, preceded him in death.

He was a lifelong area resident and retired as an assembler in 1983 after 23 years of service at South Bend Range Company. He was a member of River Park United Methodist Church, and a volunteer at the First United Methodist soup kitchen, South Bend. Mr. Shumaker was a World War II Marine veteran and a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Services will be held at 1 1 :00 a.m. Monday, March 14, 2005, in River Park United Methodist Church, 920 S. 23rd Street, South Bend, IN 46615
