Services for Jean E. Schweer, 81, Indianapolis, a professor emeritus of Indiana University School of Nursing who helped revolutionize continuing education for nurses, will be at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 20 in Our Lady of Miraculous Medals Chapel at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Fishers, with entombment afterward. Calling will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Feb.19 in Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center — Broad Ripple. She died Feb. 16. After teaching nursing in South Bend and Terre Haute, Ms. Schweer joined the IU School of Education, Bloomington, in 1955 to found the first graduate program in medical-surgical nursing. She established a continuing education program at the IU School of Nursing, Indianapolis, in 1966 and retired from there in 1986 as associate dean of continuing education in nursing. 

She served on the Indiana Heart Association's education committee and was a member of the Indiana State Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau International and Pi Lambda Theta honor societies, and the IU Alumni Association. She received the IU School of Nursing's Distinguished Alumni Award and was named Outstanding Adult Educator by the Indiana Association of Adult Continuing Education. She received the IU School of Nursing's Emily Hornquist Lifetime Achievement in Nursing Award in 2002. She was a graduate of Memorial Hospital, South Bend.
