Martha I. (Patterson) Romine

Martha I. Romine, 79, of Turtle Court, Elkhart, Ind., died at 7:24 a.m. on Sunday, May 14, in Elkhart General Hospital. She was born on Feb. 21, 1921, in Chicago, Ill., to Josephine (Popielski) and James Patterson, both of whom preceded her in death.

On July 3, 1942, in South Bend, Ind., as Martha I. Patterson, she married Charles F. Romine, who also preceded her in death on Oct. 16, 1999.

Mrs. Romine is survived by two sons, Charles D. Romine and his wife, Linda of Granger, Ind., and James E. Romine and his wife, Linda of Elkhart; nine grandchildren, Jonathan Romine, Rachael Halicki, Karissa, Alicia, Justin, Kathryn, Ryan, David and Phillip Romine; a sister, Dorothy Cintron of Cuernavaca, Mexico; and by a brother, James Patterson of Cape Coral, Fla.

Mrs. Romine was a secretary for the South Bend Community School Corporation, and was a member of Clay United Methodist Church, South Bend. Memorial services for Mrs. Romine will be at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 19, in Clay United Methodist Church. Rev. Sam Brookshire and Rev. David Jenkins will conduct the memorial services. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, South Bend. There will be no visitation. The Welsheimer Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Elkhart Community Hospice, 2020 Industrial Parkway, Elkhart, IN 46516; or to Clay United Methodist Church, 17646 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN 46635
