Ethel Irene (Oppenheim) Cahn

Ethel Cahn, 61, the first woman president of Congregation Albert, has died. She was elected to head the Jewish temple in 1975. Mrs. Cahn died at an Albuquerque hospital Wednesday after a long illness.
At the time of her election, she was one of the few women who headed a reformed Jewish congregation in the nation. Temple Albert was founded in 1897. An Albuquerque resident for 23 years, Mrs. Cahn and her husband, Stuart G. Cahn, moved to Albuquerque from South Bend, Ind. Cahn is an executive with American Furniture Co. Mrs. Cahn was active in the Temple Sisterhood, which supports the Sunday School. and was a past president of the organization. She had also served as recording secretary and financial secretary. She devoted most of her free time to her religious work.
She was a member of Hadassah and was a founding member of the Congregation's Zamir Choir.
Also surviving, are a daughter. Lisbeth Crossley Peralta; a son, Michael A. Cahn, Albuquerque; three brothers, Lawrence Oppenheim and Gene Oppenheim, both of South Bend, Ind., and Bert Oppenheim, Los Altos Hills, Calif., and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Strong-Thorne chapel Friday at 11 a.m. Rabbi Paul Citrin and Rabbi David Shor will officiate.
