Mary E. (Nitsche) Milem

ST. JOSEPH Mary E. Milem, 90, of Saline, Mich., passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, among family in Saline.

She was born on April 16, 1921, in South Bend, Ind., the daughter of William and Esther (Braeckly) Nitsche. She was a graduate of Purdue University class of 1943 and a long-time resident of St. Joseph. She loved the St. Joe area and spent 20 years as a Realtor, helping families find the right house to call home.

Early evening picnics at the beach and watching the sun set over Lake Michigan were favorite pastimes. Mary was an active member of the United Methodist Peace Temple in Benton Harbor, before moving to Saline in 2003 to be closer to family.

To cherish her memory she leaves three children: Nancy (Bruce) Ross of Saline, Mike (Polly) Milem of Carmel, Ind., and Bruce (Cindy) Milem of West-field, Ind.; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by Dallas, her high school sweetheart and husband of 64 years.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 , at Brecon Village in Saline, with the Rev. Laura Speiran officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home of Saline.
