Alfred Otto Mass, Jr.

Alfred "A.D." Mass, Jr., 77, of Ash Road, Osceola, Ind., passed away after an illness at 1:25 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Ind.
Mr. Mass was born on July 21, 1920, in South Bend, as the son of the late Alfred and Emma (Lukofsky) Mass. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Mass.
On Dec. 1, 1945, in Detroit, Mich., he married Katie Kwek, who survives. He is also survived by three daughters, Karen (Larry) Pratt of Elkhart, Ind., Janet (Rick) Bogaert of Mishawaka, Ind., and Bonnie (Bill) Fladeland of South Bend; a son, Donald (Bonnie) Mass of Osceola; 10 grandchildren, Christopher Brennan, Lisa Asbury, Lori Huddleston; Julie Wagner, Katie Mass, Andrea Mass, Brian Patrick, Amanda Patrick, Matthew Van Zant and Rachel Fladeland; seven greatgrandchildren; and by a brother, Lloyd Mass of Bellevue, Wash.
In 1969, Mr. Mass took over as president of A.D. Mass & Sons Heating and Cooling in South Bend from his father, and served in that position until 1982 when he retired. He was the sponsor and manager for A.D. Mass & Sons Heating and Cooling Class A-1 Fast Pitch Softball for many years. He was also a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in South Bend, and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, South Bend, with Rev. Daniel A. Streufert officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6-to 8 p.m. on Friday in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. Eighth Street, Mishawaka. There will also be one hour of visitation in the church on Saturday prior to funeral services.
