Warren Donald Lutes

Sequim resident Warren Donald Lutes died of a recent illness at age .79. He was born in South Bend, Ind., to Frederick Grover and Elsie Catherine (Correll) Lutes. He married Betty Lou Lange in Michigan City, Ind. Mr. Lutes was a decorated veteran of World War II, who received a Bronze Star after serving as a tank commander in Europe from 1942 to 1945. He achieved the rate of staff sergeant.
After the war, he studied and apprenticed to be a tool and die maker and mechanical designer. From 1967 to 1998, Mr. Lutes lived in Los Alamos, N.M., after which he moved to Sequim. Mr. Lutes enjoyed photography, art, sports activities and various wildlife foundations. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Society of Manufacturing Engineers and the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include his wife; sons David M. Lutes of Tigard, Ore., Mark A. Lutes of Tempe, Ariz., and Robert E. Ragsdale of Puyallup; sister Eloise of Fort Wayne, Ind.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers Cloyce, Glen and Lester and sister Naomi.
