MICHIGAN CITY - Elizabeth L. Homyak, 77, of Michigan City, died at 12:50 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at St. Anthony Hospital, Michigan City. The funeral service! will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Linda Skaggs officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Carlisle Funeral Home and at the First Presbyterian Church from 9 a.m. until the service. A prayer service will be held at Carlisle Funeral Home at 3:30 p.m. Monday with Sr. Betty Kelley officiating.

Mrs. Hornyak was born Aug. 21, 1919, in Timisoara, Romania, the daughter of George Lukacs and Katherine (Scheirich) Lukacs.

On May 18, 1940, in South Bend, she married William K. Hornyak who passed away in 1991. Surviving are two sons, Steven (Elaine) Hornyak of Michigan City, William G. (Rebecca) Hornyak of Irving, Texas; a daughter, Kathryn Merrell of Columbus, Ind.; and five grandchildren.

Mrs. Hornyak was treasurer and secretary for 41 years at Home Heating and Cooling. Mrs. Hornyak was a member of First Presbyterian Church and YMCA Table Tennis Team. She and her husband, William, received the bronze medal for World Seniors Table Tennis in 1982 in Venezuela. She was the first U.S. citizen to receive the gold medal in 1984 at Helsinki for World Seniors Table Tennis in the doubles competition. She liked to spend her free time as a part-time bookkeeper for her son at S&H RV's. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or to the YMCA
