Melvin Kenneth Hartz, 62, of 19120 Sundale, died at 4:40 p.m. Friday in St. Joseph's Medical Center, following a two-month illness. He was a retired service manager for Feferman Motor Sales.
He was born Aug. 6, 1919, in South Bend, where he was a lifetime resident.
On Sept. 1, 1951, in South Bend, he married Margaret M. DeVreese, who died in 1979.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Melissa Jancha of South Bend; a son, Daniel Messenger of Louisville, Ky.; three grandchildren; and two brothers, Walter and William Hartz, both of Mesa, Ariz.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the Evangel Heights United Methodist Church, of which he was a member. Rev. Michael J. Coyner, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home, 336 N. Main. The Portage' Masonic Lodge 676 F&AM, of which he was a member, will conduct Masonic memorial services. at 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of South Bend.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Evangel Heights United Methodist Church.
